An interpretation of movement, time and technique – this work explored the physical movements we do everyday; practiced movements that we can do with our eyes closed, and those which have a special significance to us.
This project took place during a residency in Şile, Turkey (about 1hr from Istanbul) as part of a study tour. The work was displayed on a ferry, as part of an exhibition titled, Reflections.
It looked at movements and actions that are specific to the town of Şile, such as sewing, mending fishing nets and making gözleme. The artist mimicked these hand movements with a pencil in her hand to produce abstract line works. The lines were then cut out and illuminated from beneath by the torches of disused life jackets found on the ferry.
